Wish I could find one of those! I've only the one 98 and one 2000 WAM so far. Haven't landed a 92D CAM yet. Oh well, for now I'll settle for the 1955 DDO!

I thought it would be easy to find an image of the lines, but it's not.
I was trying to catch them in an image myself a while back.
Never did manage to get them to show.
    Nice coin.

There's a pretty good image of them in the Cherrypicker's Guide. Based on the photo I would imagine they would be hard to photograph unless you had one of those microscope cameras.

Very cool find though!!!! Good luck with submitting it too. I'll guess AU50.

Someone once told me it would not be proper to take a photo out of the book. Something about it being copyright protected. I told him he's probably wrong. Set me straight. What do you think

I'm no expert, but I would think copyright infringement would only apply if you or the person you show it to uses it for some kind of gain....
there is also a pretty good picture of the lines in PCGS guide to grading and counterfiet detection

It is copyright protected so I don't do it. At the same time I have posted stuff from really old publications. I could have scanned an image from a book of this but didn't feel right doing it.

Thanks. I'll really breath a sigh of relief Tuesday. Just got an email from Mr. Fivaz confirming we're meeting up at 2:00. He's going to examine it and if it passes the test submit it for me. Pretty cool getting confirmation from the man who co-wrote the cherry-picker's guide. It's such an amazing find that I caught myself yesterday wondering if I was hallucinating it all and I would actually hand over an old carnival token to Bill! Guess I couldn't hallucinate the photos though.

    Hi,

There are some things about the 1955 DDO date that are very tough to fake. This coin looks like the real deal although I wouldn't authenticate it without it being in my hands.

In any case, I think it will pass muster!

Tell Bill That Bill O' from Found In Rolls says hi.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Update:

Bill came over and examined the coin and took it back with him for further diagnostics. Upon examining it under his stereoscope he found and indention on one of the wheat stalks that led him to suspect it as counterfeit. I'm not sure what that indention is, as I wasn't there when he was looking at it under his stereoscope. He's now going to take it to a numismatics convention in Florida next month to have a couple of other people look at it. I'll keep you updated. If it is a counterfeit, it must be a darned good one, and that is scary if the level of counterfeit sophistication is getting good enough to almost perfectly duplicate the 1955 DDO.

I hope it's genuine, it looks to be IMO. You are the luckiest ebay "unsearched" buyer in history if it's genuine. The only sad part about your experience is that others will buy "unsearched" lots on ebay only to be disappointed. It's about 1 in a billion shot you actually get unsearched coins from ebay.

    Anyhow....GOOD LUCK!

Oh, BTW, this coin will grade at least AU-50. It's a very nice example!

I hope it turns out to be a good one too. If it is a fake, it is a scary one as it can fool some very knowledgeable people!

    Good Luck.

As to the copyright issue, you can't copy any images from a book without express permission of the author , or the holder of the copyright. It has nothing to do with gain. It has everything to do with ownership of the image.

The exception has to do with books that are so old, the copyrights have expired or books that are so old that they are in the "public domain".

    Thanks,
    Bill

How come this "find" has not been all over the Coin circut news? I am POSITIVE Ken Potter would have heard about this and posted it on his website.....let alone NGC or PCGS. When the last 1969-s DDO was found it was in the news less than 24 hrs later. Give me a break. :goof:
