I need suggestions about what to do with nice but low catalog value coins.

For instance I've got a nice 1943 Lincoln, probably UNC but certainly AU.
It's not worth listing on eBay or for that matter anywhere else.
And I have other items like that.

My best thought so far is to give it to a YN in here.

That's what we do with them most of the time

If I do sell them... I sell them in lots... the more the merrier...

Problem is, there isn't THAT many AND they are quite varied (Lincoln, Jefferson, SBA, etc.)
That's why I thought of just giving them away.
How do I identify a YN in here?

I put them in a whitman album. Hell, they may be worth something a thousand years from now and they'll have plenty of glue on them by then.

A really big problem with giving them to a YN. On another forum some years ago, there was a lot of so called YN giveaways. I too had piles of nothing coins but just couldn't part with them since they were worth something to someone. So I jumped into the YN giveaways. After many such giveaways to so called YN's I found out many of those so called YN's were just a little on the NOT YN age at all. It was rather easy finding out thier age since I had to send coins to them, with thier names and addresses. After a while using people search I found most were not really YN's at all.
I agree if you or anyone has coins they don't want, don't want to bother with ebay or selling anywhere, a giveaway to a YN would be great. But how do you know it's really a YN? How do you know it isn't just some kid that just wants free stuff and no interest in coins?
I too still have many, many coins I'd love to give to some YN, but just how to know it's not a scam?

I teach High School and I always bring in Pres $1 coins and collector boards; I trade them to students for "real dollars!" Perhaps there are collectors that teach in your area and can land coins in YN hands. Here's another idea: As a kid, I used to regular a Mom and Pops collectibles store. Years later, when visiting from college, I stopped in and he remembered me; whipping out a Graf Zeppelin AirMail to show me cause he knew I'd wanna see! Maybe some dealers have YNs that frequent and could hook you up with them!

Just had another thought, someone at CT was involved in working with Scouts as they pursued a merit badge. You could be assured that those coins would go to a beginner.

I wish I'd thought of that; I'm an Eagle Scout! Call your local council and ask them who the Coin Collecting Merit Badge Counselor is!

Just a thought, talk to their parents, for instance I have a son who just got started collecting,I would be very aprehensive if somebody started sending one of my kids treats(coins) or whatever without me knowing what was going on,by the way my son says he wants any you don't,lol. I get him plenty,I've created a monster when I gave him some new albums and a magnifying glass and a bag of pennies! We have been putting extra nice but fairly valueless coins into 2x2 flips and putting then into an old coin binder for safekeeping,I'll never see the day they are worth anything, but he might,or his kids might! will have to move to empty flip holder boxes before to long though, those 2x2 pages in the binder fill up quick.

    Correct.
But my use in this thread is a YN who's just started collecting.
There's some YN's out there that know more about numismatics than I've learned in 55 years of collecting.
