That's what it reminded me when I first looked at this 'coin' on Vcoins! https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/la...ana_6550_bc_12mm_6g_rare/1454214/Default.aspx
Without the added context of the Vcoins listing, I wouldn't know whether to call that a coin or mineral specimen.
Interesting, when you get more information on it please repost it, I'd like to know. Thanks for posting such an unusual item, good luck
I wonder if it's like an Aes Rude, a crude lump of metal, meant to be money. Or maybe it's just a very corroded coin. I Googled the following, but I didn't find anything, that looked like that : Panchala Kingdom Dhruvamitra Karshapana
I mean this is what it’s supposed to look like I guess https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces138242.html
Or maybe it's both : a crude lump of metal, like an Aes Rude, and also highly corroded. I have no idea.
When the Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001 someone paid $10,000 for gum Luis Gonzales had chewed.
I can't imagine, how the vcoins dealer, attributed that thing. But maybe they noticed something that I didn't. It seems to have a vaguely coin-like shape, because it's somewhat flattened, and sort of round, in a way. It looks like, it may have been in the ocean. It looks like it has encrustations from sea life, with those concentric rings. Or maybe the rings have been eaten into the copper, by sea creatures, like barnacles or coral.
Or maybe the concentric rings, are where sea creatures like barnacles or coral were attached. The coin may have been protected from corrosion by the sea water, in the places where sea creatures were attached. This would explain, why the concentric circles seem to be higher, than the rest of the coin. As the sea creatures grew, they may have protected larger and larger areas of the coin, which may explain the concentric rings. All of this, is just my wild speculations and theories.
It's actually kind of cool and interesting... So - who is going to spend $25 on it? Its had more conversation/speculation than many coins @10X the value. I suggest shipping directly to NGC for slabbing: Strike 5/5, Surface 0/5 Fine Style
