Torlonia marbles: 'The priceless statues I saw covered in dust and dirt' https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-57030067
Too much fannying about...should have been seized and the illegal building work bulldozed and the prince turned into a pauper. Again what is the point? Just like that gold Eid Mar apparently resting in someone's private collection for decades now sold into an investors safe deposit box! At least Roma did all the research and publishing so the actual specimen is far less important now.
Glad to see these will be permanently displayed in a museum in Rome. Should be owned by the state, though..
I definitely agree that all ancient artefacts should be returned to "The State" You are aware that this includes coins, too Nevertheless here are some more photos: text unfortunately only in German https://naehrlich.de/daserberoms/2020/11/01/meisterwerke-der-torlonia-sammlung/ There is a lot of restaurations (google-translate!)
Thank you @PeteB for posting this. If it helps anyone that wants to read it, I use Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and it translate the entire text from German to English.
