Good Evening :) I got pretty excited when I found this gem, maybe even squealed a lil bit. I’ve collected lots of those smushed penny souvenirs over the years, it’d be pretty cool if I added a mint original to it. I bet it’s just a failed souvenir from worlds biggest ball of twine, huh?

I tried to get decent photos, but this Abe is tough. If you look closely you can see “liberty”

    So? How’d I do?

Looks like a 1966 railroad track experiment! I used to see these a lot more as a kid then now and are always beat up pretty bad. The elongated penny machine still fascinates me when I see one in action. Those types are usually well formed elliptical/football shaped and are overstamped with a logo of some type normally. If you do a quick search it amazing how much info on them there is and also how many people collect them. With that said Kristen, you did well to pick it out of the masses!

A penny ran over by a train protects you on your travels and brings good luck, according to Opie Taylor.

if you notice ...that's not even round. It wouldn't get stamped in a die (except under certain circumstances, which has certain characteristics) .... so the question is ... how did it get enlarged/out of round ??

I'm not sure what you see, or think the error is, but all I see is a badly damaged one cent. Is there some other thing we should be looking at?
Wait, was this posted April 1 and just now surfaced?
