1,457,959 per the Red Book but the mintage listed for the 1996-W dime is 1,457,000... apparently they did a little rounding
I've got one in my mint set and another in my Dimes album. I haven't seen either one of them in years though because they are in one of my safety deposit boxes. I can't believe what people are paying for them on eBay!
I am also a Dime collector, started with the Mercs as my first coin series to collect and now I love the Roosevelts too. I know us Dime collectors have been in the minority for years. Im just waiting for everyone to appreciate the beauty and subtleties of this denomination. And for a first time with coins I will be ahead of the curve. It does my heart good to see this thread with other Dime seekers.
I almost 60year old my 1st Dime collection was a Barber set.the was a coin club in the late 60's Called the Poor mans Morgans we had almost 40 member. But I think I am one of the last members alive I think.and I also collect world Dimes to!!
On the subject of world dimes I have two Netherlands 10 cent coins from the pre-EU 90s which are 0.585 in diam vs 0.705 in for a US Dime. Very cute coins - the smallest I own. Here are the pictures
I have a complete sets of Mer and Ros, except for the overdates. I found a 1916d mer back in the early 1958. It's in g4, but it's one. I also found a 1932d Qt xf, in 1962 at a Kroger store that I was bagging groceries.-O)
Absolutely!! That's why I opted to buy the whole set. That way I have a couple mint tokens as well and paid less for the dime. :eating:
correction - it was my mint set, not proof set. By the way, how did the advertising suddenly appear on my post? I know I didn't out it there.
I question whether you can legitimately call coins made just for mint sets and proofs business strikes. To me, the mints are becoming too much like the Franklin Mint and China knockoffs. Coins made just for collectors are more like medallions than coins.
It's produced the same way as a circulation strike, therefore, it's a circulation strike. Even if it's only contained in a mint set....
I suppose you can call it that. It's really just a matter of semantics when you get down to the nitty gritty. It's made as a circulation strike and intended as a circulation strike but is distributed as a numismatic coin. It's not really unique in this regard but it's most unusual because it's the only example from that particular mint. The '73 Ikes are essentially the same thing but made in greater numbers and nmuch less noticeable since they fit right into the series of P & D issues from '71 to '78.
Actually don't have one of those 96-W dimes, but I am working on a silver Roosevelt dime set, all PCGS MS-67 examples, and all white. 30 down and 18 to go. After that, I'll probably work on a toned set.
