I posted this coin a few weeks ago and was asked by a couple members if I could take better photos of the doubling. Unfortunately, I didn't have the coin available, since it was in storage at my parents' place, but I am visiting them for the weekend and managed to get some new photos. The coin is in pretty rough shape, sadly, so not the easiest to photograph, but the doubling is most visible in the notching/extra thickness on TRUST and on the date.
I'm not to familiar with this error but all I can say is send it and have checked out . What's the worse than can happen ?
@SensibleSal66 It's not worth sending in. It's in terrible condition and I've already attributed it, I'm just sharing with the community because it's a rare variety. I would only submit a coin for attribution at a TPG if I felt it would increase the value, and I would only send something to Wexler or Wiles that would be a new variety for their listings. If it's listed and I can't attribute it on my own, it's probably not major enough to be worth the $5 plus shipping.
@SensibleSal66 oh, and here is a link to the variety since you said you're not familiar. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1996&die_id=1996p1do001&die_state=mds
Good thinking... As far as it goes, you could be right, it could be a DDO. I've certainly seen less attributed as such, FWIW...
Looks like a match to me: http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1996&die_id=1996p1do001&die_state=mds
