What are Your Favorite US Coin Designs?

Both of my favorite US coin designs are engraved by Adolph A. Weinman. The Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar. They are just very appealing coins and I love old silver. I am currently working on both sets. I just need 12 more merc dimes and I have a long way to go on the walkers.

What is your favorite US coin design? Why do you like it?

I like most of the series struck in the 20th century. IHC, LWC, Buff and Jeff nickels, winged capped liberty dimes, peace and Morgan dollars, Franklin half dollars and surprisingly Ike dollars. I have favorite coins in each series in my collection. I like the designs and the execution.

I used to refer to this coin as my floating head from the original Star Trek series. But after @Ike Skywalker gave me my 6,000th like earlier today, I am thinking on dubbing this one Skywalker Ike!

 

This is really a tough question because I am a big fan of U.S., silver 1964 and older. If I were to choose, I would say the Seated Liberty quarters and halves, especially the 1853s with Rays and Arrows. After that the Morgan dollars.

 

That is a very nice coin as well but I think I like the standing liberty more... I’m thinking about getting a standing liberty quarter with some good detail, I can’t see the dates on the ones I have haha.

I am a big fan of pre 1964 silver as well. Kennedy halves and Ike dollars are too plain for me.

 

My favorites are 1. SLQ's. 2. Walkers. 3. Morgans
The order may change on any given day, and Ben might even sneek his way in from time to time.

 

I think part of the appeal of Ikes are what they represent. I grew up at a time when these were first released as well. The reverse with the eagle over the surface of the moon, representing the words spoken when Apollo 11 touched down on the surface "The eagle has landed!" The fact that the space program directly led us to be here in this moment now, typing on mini computers, posting on the internet, all made possible by rhe space program. Mind boggling the achievement that reverse commemorates!

 

I Like Ike too!! I remember my dad giving me an Ike every once in a while. I bought a nice one to remember this by. I have a few more, including the ones from my dad, but I still need to photograph them.

1915 Pan Pacific $50 Octagonal

 

Hands down, the walking liberty half, for now. Don't know enough about other coins yet, to really make a decision. Nice choice.


I own two slabbed coins, this is one of them.

 

Back in 1969 my house cost $8500 that same year I could have bought a complete set of Pan-Pacific coins for 21,000.00.

Easy

 

Those designed by Augustus Saint Gaudens, especially the Indian Head $10.

 

Draped bust silver dollars, walking Liberty halves, Indian head cents, Flying eagle cents, not necessarily in that order.
All fairly simple yet very elegant designs

 

The Mercury dime and the IHP.
