Just got one in the mail over the weekend. Got it along with 18 other proof Roosevelts, a new Dansco Roosevelt album and a roll of uncirculated mixed date Roosevelts for $30. Figured that wasn't a terrible deal.
West Point Dime Yes I have some and have submitted several to PCGS and NGC and seems the best I can get is MS 66 FB. Not sure why they are so hard on them.
Yeah, sounds like a great deal to me!! I wanted one of these really bad, so I had to jump on ebay at the right time. I had to buy the whole set, cost me around $16 and chg delivered. I don't know what I'll do with the extra coins, but I'll find somewhere to trade them for something. hya:
Heh! We must have been after the same coin around the same time. I actually bid on two lots and won both. The second one I have not received yet, but it was a '96 proof set that I got for 14.99. I'm going to keep the favorite of my two and probably sell the other one.
Yeah, it's one of the modern keys I added to my set. They have a very low mintage, but are easily obtained. -LTB
I have one in a 1996 Mint set which I purchased directly from the mint. I'm especially fond of it and the little folder which has a bit about FDR and the dime.
Does your holder look like this? Because this is the one I purchased. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180438077554&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
These are nice coins to add to your Roosevelt sets and to put aside for future generations. They were only sold in the Mint Sets keeping the mintage low but that also keeps the mid to upper grade MS grades readily available.
I collected about 6 of them and never took any of them out of the plastic. I think that they were worth about 15 bucks when I bought them and I think they are still worth about 15 bucks. I think that they are kind of unique with the "w" mint mark, unfortunately, they are part one of the least collected modern coins this country has to offer. It seems that few people like to collect Rosies as has been discussed in this forum many, many times. I wonder what it would take to make the series popular with collectors?
I don't have one, but I plan on picking one up in the future. They are among the key Roosevelt Dimes and although not rare, definitely a nice addition to a collection.
I'm a fan of the 1996-W dime. I have around 35-40 1996 Mint Sets and I buy more of them every time I go to a show and see them reasonably priced.
"Does your holder look like this? Because this is the one I purchased." Yes it does - somewhat. The folder (which holds the 1996-W Dime) I was referring to is inside the mint set envelope, and is posted in the attachment here
