I buy a few coins from Littleton, but they are not the most econimical place to buy (to say the least!) Yes, they are pricey, some would say over-priced (and I guess I would have to agree). Their main clientel is not the hard core collector, but probably aimed more towards the beginner or the dabbler.
Absolutely beginners hot spot, although I'm sure some would disagree I would stay off of it. Simply b/c they have too many modern coins at highly marked up prices. IMHO there's not much difference between Littleton and CSN or one of the other tv auction sites. :hail: Well they may be just a tad cheaper, but not much. Still, if you have to buy online, shop around... Apmex, pennypinchercoins, Gainsville coins. Heck just google discount coins and flip a coin. Just kidding about flipping the coin, someone will give a better answer than I can. US Mint is the bst, then Apmex, teletrade, Heritage, the list goes on...
ok thanks by the way i am a beginner and i buy from them because its easy to find the coins that i look for i wil go check out the mint
Welcome tchummer! There are many people here at CT that can help you find what you might be looking for. You came to the right place. When in doubt, just ask. Lots of knowledge in here, and many times people may upgrade their collections, and sell what they replaced! Enjoy! Chuck
Littleton typically has high quality, but also high prices. They are very conservative buyers/graders, but they also command top dollar for their coins. As for myself, I currently purchase most of my coins from local coin shows, with eBay being 2nd place, and local dealers being a distant third.
I rarely buy coins online, sometimes ebay. I much rather have the opportunity to study the coin in question in hand rather than either through pictures which can mislead or not at all.
Very good point. It is always best with in-hand appraisal with your own eyes. The problem is my local dealer does not have a lot of coins in some grades I like to collect. Not many shows around this area - and then some of the prices are too steep. So it leaves the internet. Sometimes you just have to make do with what is available. To the OP - I use Heritage and Harlan J Berk for morgans and not really done a whole lot with moderns. I would comparison shop for those - using ebay, online dealers, local dealer, etc. My local dealer very seldom has graded coin - usually a box of 10 to 20.
