TPG Restoration on Fingerprints?

Having recently read up on submitting coins for encapsulation and the restoration services TPGs offer, I was wondering if they could do anything with this one. But then after searching old posts on this site I've decided that the fingerprint is there to stay. Oh it's been on there for a long time as I bought the coin in the early '90s in a mylar flip and recently transferred it to saflip. I don't specifically remember but most likely I gave it an acetone bath as typical with the coins I removed from their old mylar flips.

Has anyone ever had any luck with TPG restoration to "clean off" fingerprints?

    Thanks.

I've never tried!! Always been under the impression finger prints were there to stay and nothing can be done about them. If you send it in please let us know how it turns out!!!!

IMHO Only a coin doctor could fix this one. The print would be gone but the coin would not be original. Nevertheless, IMO, very many collectors would be fooled by the altered surface.

You only do something about fingerprints if you catch them very early. Once they are set on the surface of a coin, they are there to stay.

It appears that someone has already been working on that coin. I have my doubts that it would get a straight grade from a leading TPG. Sorry.

The way I look at it. Keep it as original. I have a dollar coin with a finger print. For ME I look at it as unique. 608C442C-F4EF-4DB1-8D22-3FCF71157D76.jpeg

Can you verify the crack on the Reverse from rim to right tip of wheat stalk?

A tiny piece of really really fine sandpaper will fix that right up! ;)

Hi @PamR - sorry for the confusion. I was looking at the 1910 S LWC. I thought I noticed it was an RPM, but using the Thumbnails, it's harder to attribute. MM placement, appearance, and it looks like a crack (marker) makes it a valuable variety coin. Any attempt to remove the fingerprint on a valuable coin could render it a so-so coin. Hoping we caught this in time!!

This one not valuable but I would not touch it. Save for my son. Have a few of George’s but I like the print. Thank you. 786F5D56-5F58-4F29-AFA1-08192F5A511D.jpeg C4123427-05E0-4B48-B490-45CE55408499.jpeg C2590FC6-7501-44F4-8F0D-B0AEE6BEF40A.jpeg

Thanks for the comments and advice. Planning on sending it in for grading, guess I should check the boxes for identifying varieties on it.

No, I haven't tried to fix it / clean it / change it, I figured all I'd be able to do is make it look less appealing!

Good to hear. Can you confirm the crack on the reverse?
