US Mint Product Release

the 2nd W mintmark proof SAE this year is released on July 1st, I'm assuming it will be the type 2 reverse otherwise why list it twice?

I'd assume if you are talking about bullion ones it would also be around this time Although I think they've finished making the bullion type 1 reverse for this year already and have moved on to type 2. in order to roll them out around the same time just after mid year. I think they should be everywhere by end of july really.

edit*** I checked bullion sites, they are selling them on pre-order with a delivery date of "by July 30th". sites that are doing pre-order right now are asking $40-$42 each.

I was considering it until I saw them....ugly. However, if nobody buys them they'll be rare lol.

 

MS69 and MS70 ASEs, are not walking liberty halfs and never will be, and this is also very possible for these new morgans and peace dollar strikes on a different composition. Check around the forums on the internet a while, does it appear to you the collectors are taking them as an addition to the series,,, or instead as a commemorative strike that's not part of the series, because that's what really matters, how collectors receive them into the hobby.

It's the difference between them being one more hole to fill in the albums (if album makers do that even and create a new page to add them in), or a stand alone set like the W quarters of 2019-2020.

the TPGs haven't added them to the registry sets yet so not sure where they decide they will fall yet, but that will also matter to some folks on how they are perceived and received in the collector world.

these will all be MS69 or MS70 morgan and peace dollars and that's not going to change any time soon if at all ever. top grade rarity isn't gonna have the "oomph" that say, a MS68 1881S morgan dollar has., All 175K of them should AT LEAST be MS68 or better.

Nobody is going to be paying five or six figures or more for 1 of 175,000 other MS69s or MS70s. or even 85K MS70s and 90K MS69s. something has to go really wrong where there's just a couple dozen MS70s, and even then, it's still the wrong composition for the series and in fact on a commemorative planchet.

I have no doubts it will be as hot as the basketball hall of fame or Apollo coins, or the McAuliffe coins at least initially, it's where they settle to in the hobby I have my personal concerns over, but they all should be very high grade or perfect from the start, and likely will also be VAM-less.

The real question I guess is "Is it an actual morgan or peace dollar and part of the series as a whole, or something else in the eyes of the collector community?".

time will tell.

Haha. The mint just opened for business on the 2021 Kennedy half dollar rolls and bags at noon eastern. I just logged in put the rolls in by bag and went to check out and it keeps giving me a "sorry cannot process your order at this time" error....oh the comedy of errors for a simple product like rolls of half dollars...just wait for the Morgan's and Peace dollars hahahaha.

 

I found a work around, don't use the credit card you have on file, even if all the numbers are good and not expired. Add a new card and the transaction will go through.

 

I had planned on trying for one of each, but I hope I don't have to fight a crowd to get in. I know that they are duds, but they are only here this year, I hope. I really want to get the T2 ASE. I didn't buy McAuliffe coins. I did get the Proof Set, Silver Proof Set, the Tuskegee Airman puck, and the T1 ASE. With 175,000 of the Morgans and 200,000 of Peace, do you think they will sell out? Any chance of getting in Early?

 

they are going to sell out no doubt in my mind same day, and early with all the head hunters for dealers and flippers and house hold limits of 10 per..... still you should be able to get an order in as long as you show up at noon ET ready to rock and roll to make a purchase,,, probably going to be frustrating and be a hassle but you should be able to get it done.

 

I expect this sale to be just like in the last few years when the coins go on sell at noon and all sold in less than 10 minutes. Why even bother to try. They'll be sold out before you can even get on the Webb site.

Why privy marks? The Carson City Mint and New Orleans Mint buildings are still standing. What a waste of an opportunity. They could have made a deal to strike the CC's and O's at the original building. There is even an old press still at the Carson City Mint. Even the Granite Lady is still standing in San Francisco.

 

After the debacle of the privy mark ASE I've decided to purchase the last of the 2021 Morgan's (no MM) and the Peace dollar, simply for historic purposes. You just have to wonder what the qualifications are for running the Mint, perhaps no qualifications at all?

And remember these may be on the list that the distributors can now buy several days ahead of time (I don't know if they are) and I don't believe they have to worry about that "10 per household" limit. So there may be a lot less than 175,000 available on opening day.

I will. Few, if any other issues have ever or will ever prompt my desire/effort to at least try for one, but the Morgan is an exception...for me.

 

Given their high prices, all I am buying this year are the 2021 standard proof and uncirculated sets. I have all the silver sets 1993-2020, but $105 for them or $85 for a silver dollar is just too much.

 

This thread is the first I'm hearing about the privy marks. Just the Morgan or the Peace as well?

Have read this from others, but not sure I understand. Is it a principle thing...that even though it's MORE silver than the original, it's not the same...not true to original form/history...? But in fact other things besides silver also won't/can't be the same...not the new/redesigned hubs because the originals were destroyed, and not some of the mints/mint marks plus not original business strikes as these definitely appear to be some sort of "enhanced uncirculated" issues...essentially proof-like by my thinking. Still, they're a nice commemorative...not exact...not a clone. As to price, what isn't or hasn't been high/too high, and to me the 2021 Morgan is a much better "deal" if you will, than for the silver proof set...! I hope to get one. To each their own.

 

I am interested in the 2021 Peace Dollar because it looks to be a fully struck version of the original design. I have no interest in the 2021 Morgan Dollar. I have an 1883 Proof Morgan Dollar, and I could get a high grade 1881-S if I wanted a great business strike.

 

I heard on the Coin World podcast that they considered striking them at CC mint but they would have to ship a press there to do it and logistically it would cost in the hundreds of thousands by the time it was all said and done and was determined to be too costly to make it worth it. I'm just passing on what I heard.
