I bought this coin last month. When it arrived I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. This is a 1855 $1.00 Gold coin, a Indian Princess Head, Small Head or Type 2 to be exact. Only minted for 3 years, from 1854-1856. Total mintage for this year is 758,268 so not a lot of them are available. I got this at a great price, about half of the going rate in an auction. The coin itself is very nice and I was pleased but when I looked closer and got over my initial excitement, I was in disbelief as the error was not on the holder. There are a few minor signs of a clash on the obverse, from the wreath as shown in the second photo. That was enough but then I looked at the reverse. It was a good thing I was sitting down. I let out a joyful scream and had to explain it to my wife. Once she saw what I was seeing (which took a bit) she couldn’t believe it either. It shows in the third photo but in the fourth photo, which I turned upside down, it clearly shows. If you can’t see it you need to stop collecting coins with errors. The clash is unbelievable. There is a complete image of the obverse. Clear as day. In the last photo I put arrows to show a few spots where the clash is more prominent. I’m still thrilled.
Are you going to send it in to get attributed? I would. That's a really nice clash! (though, pictures are pretty blurry)
@Collecting Nut ...your glasses are on top of your head, if you are trying to find them. Otherwise a really nice gold piece...I see some of the clashing behind the crown/headdress...imo...Spark
New photo so new camera. I’m still learning it. I may send in sometime in the future but not right away.
Maybe the reason it isn't on the label is because the submitter didn't request the attribution? Nice pick up for under the going price. Congrats on that.
I just can’t get over how strong the reverse clash is. And then there is a lighter one on the obverse. Amazing!
