Are these worth selling?

Hey all! My dad left me a large collection of older coins, which I love learning about and going through. I've sold some on ebay in the past because I have so many. These, however, I know nothing about. I have been putting off organizing them and finally did it. I'm not sure if they are worth selling individually or should I just deposit them. I'll probably hold onto the 50 roll boxes. My daughter may want them one day plus they weigh a ton. They all have the P mint mark and I think he got them right from the mint. I opened one roll and they look brand new. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank ya'll so much!

I'm afraid they don't carry any premium besides face value I would deposit them if I were you

Those rolls did not come from the Mint. They came from a bank. I doubt that you would get more than face value for them, but check the Kansas rolls for the "Speared Bison".

 

It would be hard to find a buyer and make it worthwhile especially with $5 shipping but if I were you, I would open them and look for errors. As @cpm9ball said, are you sure they are all the same? They look like what you’d get from the bank...

 

I will break those open and look. Would be neat to find something different in them!

 

That's kind of what I thought! The thought of shipping them kinda made me cringe. I'm not positive they are all the same. Just separated them this morning by state. If they aren't worth more as an unopened roll I'll probably take my time and go through them. Thanks for the feedback

 

@Traci ...3 things going against you at this juncture...
1. You don't want to go through each roll but that's what you will have to do to determine if each roll is all the same State.
2. There might be some high level condition coins (MS64 or better), again, you have to look at each coin and know how to grade them. Then into protection of some sort.
3. Very apparent now that everybody saved some State coins as they came out, very popular.
Try to sell by the roll, by state, to people who have a favourite state. Or, gift some of them to your family or friends...jmho...Spark

 

My thoughts: If in no hurry or otherwise in need, etc., take your time...if you have the time...and go through them over time...you may find something unexpected and that's no different than any "rush" of CRH and metal detecting, et al. Under the very general heading of, "one man's junk is another man's treasure"...not junk of course...but consider putting them up/out there for sale...bet you'll get a buyer(s). Maybe do a listing for entire lot and/or one for either each state or rolls of each state, etc. And yes, consider gifting a few to family/kids for birthdays, birth years and/or birth states.

 

Another thought, sell the entire lot to a dealer like Dave's Coins, or US State Quarters? You may get above face value and cover your postage, if they will buy them. Worth a try if you don't have the time to go through them all. Good luck.

 

I cited the Kansas quarter because that is the only group that I saw in your photo. There are other varieties like the Wisconsin "High" and "Low" leaf, but I didn't see those in your photo. However, there are general errors like "missing clad layer", "cud" or any number of other errors that can bring decent premiums. I mentioned in my other post that the rolls were not Mint-wrapped, but that doesn't mean that they aren't original, uncirculated rolls from the Fed. You just have to look through them!

The states in the pic are the only states I have except for the two boxes of all 50 states. I am curious now about the Kansas coins. I have some spare time now so will look through those rolls. They all look shiny and new! Thanks again!

There are other errors to look for, such as the extra leaf on the corn on the Wisconsin quarter

 

Is there a website or database with errors to look for? I am definitely going to go through the Kansas but if there are other unique coins on the states I have I’d like to look through those too. Will keep ya’ll posted on what I find!

 

Traci.......you might be surprised what an unopened state quarter roll brings. Here is a listing of ebay sold auctions. browse through it before you make any decisions.

I would list the entire lot on eBay.
You could ship them all in flat rate boxes. Total up all of the rolls face value add a dollar or two to each one to cover your shipping costs and make a little bit for your efforts and put them on an auction. If they sell for your asking starting bid you make a little and you may have someone bid them higher. Just my opinion but that's what I would do. Good luck.
