The eagle is a one year type, and this was the first year of The Republic of Mexico to mint coins.

Nice Hookneck. Fascinating area of collecting that's getting increasingly pricier.

Yes, it is. Mexican coins have really gotten much more popular and the increase in silver price has also had an effect on World crowns

I've seen on eBay a substantial price jump on pre-1920 Italian silver coins.

As it turns out I've only two. Both are from 1824, one from the Mexico City mint and one from the Durango mint. Aside from the mint marks, they're very different stylistically in terms of the Eagle. I'm really looking for an 1823 but have failed to bid on the few that I've run across.

These were bought before slabbing of world coins became commonplace.

    Nice coin!

Actually 1823 was the first year of republican "hookneck" 8 reales production at the Mexico City Mint.

Yes, and the mint that I don't have: Guanajuato, made yet another slightly different style of Hookneck 8R.

Yes, I don't have any of them, but would like to get all off them.
