Why would anyone buy this.. Look at the Picture. http://auctions.overstock.com/1923-PEACE-DOLLAR-CERTIFIED-MS-69/Coins/item/45408181 I have never purchased from this site, Don't think I will be in the future.
That's where all the self slabbing fools went after EBay gave them the boot... If you think EBay is the wild west... you should look around there.
Wow, all that stuff is insane.. I feel bad for them... It Looks like a couple have home made slabs.. so sad.
Yeah - but keep this in mind. If you know what you are doing you can cherry pick some nice coins from those slabs and cross them over. I am not good enough to try it, but have heard other more experienced people that have done it. As a matter of fact, my father has bought 4 morgans in WCGS(or something like it) - crossed 3 of them over to PCGS and NGC with maybe a 1 point grade loss. That was luck - cause the fourth came back cleaned. Since that 4th one he has stopped trying this and he really did get those 3 at really good prices.
This is also funny: BLAST WHITE BLAZER. Did they miss the artifical toning on the obverse? Even with those crummy pictures you can see that it isn't white.
I might cancel my Penny Auction on Ebay.. Started the auction at 500.00 and then dropped it to 425.00 because it was too high.. (still is at 425).. and go and try to sell them at 500.00 again... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150394108374&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT No Bad Karma
LOL, I was on eBay yesterday looking for Peace Dollars, and I saw a list of about 50 auctions in a row in self-slabs. Didn't know about this phenomenom until yesterday. Luckily I am smart enough to realize that there really couldn't be one guy selling that many 1921 MS-68's at one time.
The seller says the coin is from an original roll. So I guess he is sort of admitting that it's artificially toned.
So if we find a ridiculous auction on eBay at a high price that means we should not buy there either? Why do you say that? You can get toned dollar out of an original roll.
