A Childhood Dream Realized

Hello Everyone,

It has been a childhood dream of mine, and a long-time bucket list item, to mint coins/tokens of my own custom design.

In 2020, I began working on a design, initially I decided to make a 10 cent token, dated 2020 (or 2021). It was to have the obverse of a capped bust dime and the reverse of a draped bust dime. I wanted to make it penny sized so that I could easily file down copper cents and stamp it over. I even filed & polished eight cents in preparation for this, though it proved to be much more work than I thought. earlier today I caved in and decided to just buy the planchets at a higher rate.

In 2020 I also started working on the design, though I quit about 35% of the way after losing drive for the project. About a week ago I picked it back up and completed both the obverse and reverse designs. I decided to change the design from the draped bust eagle to the 1 reale Mexican eagle. Wanted it to stand out more than just being a copy of American coins and it turns out that I really enjoy Mexican coins as well.

So today I completed the reverse design, and I am very happy with it. Also payed for planchets and dies, though it should take a while to arrive. Here's the final version of the design.


It is dated 2014 because that is the year that "YoloBagels" was founded. I also don't want to be paying for new dies every year.

Tokens will go on sale, probably in June. I will not be charging a lot for them, probably just enough to remake what I payed for the dies/planchets. Will be posted here once ready. Then again this is mostly for fun as I have always wanted to do this.

Thank you, I used a combination of GIMP and MS Paint to make the template which I have self-taught myself to use for several years now.

Will probably be a month or so before I even get the dies in but I definitely will post them as soon as I start striking.

They might not be ready until mid-June but I will definitely post them on here.

Thank you, then again I wanted to have a mix of numismatic aspects/ideas that I have appreciated over the years of collecting. US and Mexican Type coins are my favorites.

Just curious, the history of YoloBagels, as you say it was founded in 2014. quite a few videos when searching Goosle but no real info. Thanks

 

I began YoloBagels on July 1, 2014. I was 11 years old at the time (hence the funny name) and it actually started as a video game account making mostly minecraft videos. Most of those vids are gone now. They were either deleted or archived because some (all) of them were embarrassing lol.

In early 2016 I converted it to a numismatics channel. Was active on YouTube for a while and then I switched to Instagram and coin forums. I still make YT vids about once every few months.

 

And the name, YoloBagels? I happen to think it's great, lol.

WOWWW! All I can say is... WOWW!!! I've always wanted to create a token and found some outfits that can do it but the minimum order is 500 or something like that. All I wanted is a handful for myself and a few close buddies. LOL.

Anyway, your designs are really cool. Did you know that there's an interesting legend behind the eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its mouth? I really like your designs. To give you further encouragement, here's what your tokens will look like. As you can see - your designs are quite eye catching!!! Congratulations - you're very creative.
