Hello. After admiring all of the coins in the recent Justinian I thread, I became motivated to ask about the authenticity of my Justinian I coins. Here are my 4 Justinian I pieces. The 4th coin is a fake. Comments, even just general impressions or gut feelings, on the authenticity of all of the coins, are welcome, although I know it's hard to judge, from just photos, and no photos of the edges of the coins. The edges of Coins 1 through 3 look fine to me, no file marks, no casting seams, etc. The definite fake (Coin 4) coin's edge has file marks on it. I've only been collecting ancients for about 2 years. I'm still not great at detecting fakes, although I'm slowly getting better, I hope. In the last year or so, I have gotten better, at finding trustworthy dealers.

    Coin 1 : Nikomedia Mint, Regnal Year = 12, Maximum Diameter = 44 mm, Weight = 21.73 grams.

    Coin 2 : Nikomedia Mint, Regnal Year = 16, Maximum Diameter = 34 mm, Weight = 19.73 grams

    Coin 3 : Nikomedia Mint, Regnal Year = 14, Maximum Diameter = 40 mm, Weight = 21.53 grams

Coin 4 : FAKE! : Nikomedia Mint, Regnal Year = 12, Maximum Diameter = 45 mm, Weight = 17.67 grams. This was the first Justinian I coin I bought, before I learned to consult fake coin reports. It's a very common cast fake, from the late 20th century. I've since seen many other copies of it.

Did I catch you talking to yourself before? Aren't you the poop poster under a different handle?

Hello Ryro. I am not MightyKnighty. On his "Porsche" thread, I did leave a bunch of comments, because I was trying to help him, with his problem.

Was MightyKnighty's Porsche problem legit? Or was it a bunch of lies? I have no idea.
