    Okay, I need to "pick the brains" of all you Ron Landis SME's . . . . . . (that's, subject matter experts) . . . .

    Can anyone tell me what the "Last Chance Forever" on this old brass Renaissance Fair token of Ron's is referencing?

    I even "Googled" it, and did a Google Maps on the address, 506 Ave. "A", San Antonio, TX 78215

    It looks like whatever WAS there has now been replaced by medium density residential.

    Any ideas?

    Z

    Very cool. That makes sense given the token imagery. I wonder what the history of this piece is . . . .

    I sent a message to Ron Landis last night about the meaning behind it, hopefully he will reply and give more background.

    @alurid nice find!

    Further to my post above. Ron Landis responded in an email:

    Quote:

    "John Karger was the Falconer at several Renaissance Festivals in the 80s & 90s. His non-profit organization nursed injured eagles, etc. and returned them to wild. I made three or four varieties over the years that he sold as fund raisers. He was very devoted to the cause so he may still be actively involved somehow. Ron Landis"

    "I happen to have one right in front of me. I’m pretty sure this is the first variety and probably the most common. It was hot struck. When I retooled for my larger press I engraved new dies for cold striking. We were going to make larger silver proof for him after we left the festivals but got distracted with our reproductions and never did" (Further edit from Ron)

    The coin you presented above is the same as the 'hot struck' one he mentioned. @ZoidMeister and yes the name of the Conservancy was Last Chance Forever.

    Thanks much for reaching out to him in my stead. I love getting the "backstory" on his work.

    Due to certain employment restrictions, I cannot avail myself of most social media platforms, so I only have "anti-social" media to rely on.

    I'm not sure I would contact him directly. I am an unknown to him.

    Again, eternal thanks.

    @ZoidMeister You're welcome.

    I love a challenge in research and found he has a gallery. I don't know him either but I reached out to him through his website related to his gallery and, Thankfully, he responded.
