hello everyone Would this coin be considered an offcentre struck? If it is would this be worth grading? Ty
It looks off center to me, but it wouldn't get a straight grade due to all the scratches. It would get a details grade. IMHO not worth it. I don't know what this coin is worth, but you'll probably spend way more on getting it graded than what the coin is worth.
Not worth getting graded. A broadstrike. If it were off-center more of the design would be off of the coin.
As of value the only thing that helps is its a small error and worth a few bucks and don't get it certified i would just keep it for that if I were you.
Thanks, im fairly new to coincollecting. That is at least a good thing the quarantine brought for me.
You're very welcome. Having an open mind and being willing to learn will get you where you want to be quickly.
I find the clash a lot more interesting than it being off center, but I still don't believe it would be worth spending the money to get it graded.
It’s a minor broadstrike but what’s more interesting is on the date side you can see the entire outline of the other side. This is called a die clash and it’s a nice one. Grading with all of the damage would not be a smart move. Welcome to CT.
I see it now how could I miss it at first blended in perfectly with the rest of the scratches and hits.
You were focused on something else, like the question the OP asked. I have a gold coin with this very feature so it stood out to me. I’ll be posting it in the future.
Nope, not at all. A clash will be backwards or/and upside down. Think about how the die strikes the planchet. Then think what happens when the die strikes the opposite die and then that die strikes a planchet.
It’s something you have to think about as the design is not transferred onto a planchet until it has been transferred into the other die. The clash is normal. Hope you understand now.
