I understand why: when you are in there is a big panel with directions, but the basement is only described as “Il Medagliere” which is hardly comprehensible for the natives too, because in modern italian it means a place where you hang medals. A good reason indeed to be back soon
Here is the main page for the Vatican Numismatic Collection. A few years ago I was able to search through many beautiful coins photos, or should I say photos of many beautiful coins? (There are papal Medals, too, which are exquisite.) https://www.vaticanlibrary.va/en/the-library/numismatic-department.html There is a link to the coins themselves on that page. However, when I click it now, it doesn't bring up much of anything. I tried some searching for awhile, couldn't find the site I had been on before. I may be lost on their website, or maybe the website us getting updated--who can tell? Hope it can be found. I never made it into the museum to see the collection.
Thanks for quoting DSmit, Donna, at least I can read some of what he said, then deleted. Love your style. One sided photos on sales websites are really annoying though-having to click twice hundreds of times is tedious, but for showing(off) it seems rather 'classy' Don't know why.Like the front cover of a posh auction catalogue maybe.
