This was one of those auctions where the seller had no photos, and judging by his history was definitely not a coin seller. I've found that I've gotten my best Ebay deals from those types.
holy crapp.. it would be wortha base rpice of 950 dollars and up.. but im concerned about the hair line .. and the look of the surface.. i dont see hair doubling and the hair looks weak .. did you check the wieght? did it match the book weight ?get a gram scale weight it.. if it matches the book weight send it to pcgs or ngc or anacs or even icg (the do it for free if your a member) something to be graded...
I'm having a hard time believing this, a very hard time! I'm having a hard time believing this, a very hard time! Now you may have found it and it may be genuine but I'm going to doubt it and doubt it very much - it must have the die markers next to the "T" on reverse to be real. I'm going to go on record and say it's either a copy (there are thousands of copies) or it was not found in a roll as you say. Sorry I've got to go with what is most likley. If I am wrong I will take back my statment and congratulate you.
Yeal~Right Yeal~Right was my 1st cynical thought. But you do seem to have been struck with some good luck there. Congrats.:thumb: Heck, go out & buy a lotto ticket and see how that works out for you!
I haven't checked the weight yet, as I do not have a gram scale. I may take it by a jewelers. As for doubling in the hair, it's definitely there. Also in the lower lip and nostril.
I think I may need to do just that, especially since on my drive in to work this morning I was given a proof 1969 Kennedy in change at a convenience store!
I looked last night for that die marker. Is it present on all die stages? Also, does anyone have a link to this die marker? Neither coppercoins nor lincolncentresource.com has that particular marker. Fake or not, this came from Ebay. I said that I paid less than a $1.50/roll for these, but I did not say that I bought them in actual rolls. This was from one of those bags of wheat pennies. Have you ever seen the ones that are clear plastic with labeling on them? It appears to be from one of those, as the upper label from the bag was in the shipment.
If it's a copy it's a very good one. The only thing that I see is that the 'B' in Liberty does not look correct. The upper 'B' looks like it is underneath the lower 'B' rather then on top. A closer picture would help clear that up.
Thanks. After all the common crap I've gotten off of Ebay I'd be hating you too if you found it. When I get home this afternoon I'm going to try to post some more photos for you experts to weigh in on.
Does anyone here know Bill Fivaz? Is he very approachable? The reason I ask, is that he only lives(according to his NGC info) about 10 minutes from me. Be great to get his opinion. I'm sure he gets tons of stuff all the time though from people wanting him to look at their finds.
I don't know him, but hey, what the heck, e-mail him and tell him what you'd like to do. What is the worst case? He says no, or mail it to me so I can charge you.
jallengomez, youreally know how to rub it in! My name on the holder @@**!!@*.:crying: The only way you can make it up to me is to send me the coin for a Christmas gift. I'll forgive you.
