I want to learn as much as I can about currency before I spend to much more money..My local coin shop has a box of books for my at 2 or 3 bucks each.. I got two and am thinking about going back for the rest
Just wanted to know if these may have more value? The Prices are so out of date.. I like the research.. and can see a bit how some bills moved through the years..But do the boos have a collectors Value?

The two I bought are Large 13"x8"
Hardcover.. 13th ed. Standard Catalog of U.S. Paper Money (1994)
Softcover.. 7th ed. Standard handbook of Modern U.S. Paper Money (1982)

I think I want the rest but may want to sell the ones that I won't use..
Any info on Values in $$ and Knowledge .. Thanks

I don't think there's much $ value in old catalogs. But the rest of the content is fantastic and worth far more than the few bucks they're asking. I (and most others, I'd guess) do not buy new catalogs when they come out - it would cost me a fortune. And the content changes very little, unless what you're specifically collecting is brand new issues that wouldn't be in the older catalog. And the catalog prices are only a relative number anyway, which needs to be augmented with your knowledge of the market, trends, etc. So get those catalogs if they cover the content you're interested in.

    Hi Lather,

Your best bet for current values is the gray sheet they have a couple
Of different ones including the green sheet for currency "The Coin
Dealer Newsletter" Just do a google search to locate them that way!

As far as books like you mentioned good for reffrence to old for value
    Information.

i usually get my books 1 issue old. Like Dave mentioned, buying all the current issues would be cost prohibitive.

Ah, the O'Donnell book. That one is, unfortunately, the latest edition; Krause let it go out of print after that, more-or-less replacing it by the less-detailed Oakes & Schwartz (now Schwartz & Lindquist) book. Until (*ahem*) a certain website came along, that 1982 book was the best available source for detailed serialling data...and it's *still* probably the best paper source (save the Azpiazu book where $1 FRNs are concerned).

Good find, picking that up in a junk box...a few years back I had to do a fair bit of searching to find a copy, myself.

www.uspapermoney.info is the site being reffered to there :D a great site for updated info on whats being printed, where, when and of course how many. Not to mention the boat0loads of other info stored on its pages!

I, too, would be interested in seeing a pic of the book if one is available.
