So, from a dirty, stained Zincoln, to a harshly cleaned Zincoln now full of hairline scratches. Was there a reason for cleaning it?

I wanted to see what was really on the coin when all that dirt was removed

Plus if those gas bubbles were something else like clash marks instead and also bottom left rim to lincolns back jacket was another strike

Just in all. I wanted to see the outcome. It being the year I was born too.

But, hypothetically, if there was anything special about the coin, cleaning it like that makes it virtually worthless.

Depending how you look at it though. In my eyes priceless. In others worthless. It's the workmanship that went it the coin before it reached my hand.

I also think there were more blood, sweat and tears that went to most US coins compared to now a days coins.

If it is for your own personal satisfaction, then clean away. Yes it is clean now, but I advise you not to clean ANY coin unless that is how you want them to look in your collection. Just hope you don't do it to a coin with any numismatic interest or value

But he uses Irish Spring. His coins smell really good.

Oh wait.. Do they sell Irish Spring soap in California?

I racked up some time at the 32nd Street Station there in San Diego. Nice port side attractions. Save making coins shiny till later, enjoy your stay.

Fugetaboutit. With all the rules and regs they have out there in Cali, they probably say the artificial fragrance in Irish Spring is cancer causing.

I think most members are anti cleaning and you will be hard pressed to get likes for this thread.
