Best Sleeper for 2009

There is a lot of talk about supply and demand, Gold and Silver rising $$$ and how countries are buying precious metals.

For example, in 1997 there was the Botanic Graden Set that was a real sleeper, and come to find out, that was the only place you could have gotten that nickel.

Are there sleeper coins or sets in 2009? If so, what are they and which one will bring the biggest % over the mint's price?

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of one single unique coin that would get the "sleeper" award for 2009.

None of the "sets" had a unique coin similar to the Botanical Gardens set.

A distinct possibility would be if 2009-W Proof SAE's and GAE's got minted due to some last second shuffling ("The latest issue of Coin World states that Representative Gary Peters (D-Michigan) is asking all his colleagues to urge Edmund Moy to reverse the US Mints decision to not produce 2009 Proof Gold and Silver Eagles.") then those coins would have super low mintages and might even surpass the 1995-W SAE Proof!

I asked because I had not given it much thought, and wondered if anybody had studied or thought about it much
    '09 Nickel
    '09 Dime
Is there a particular '09 95% lincoln cent that was only offered in a set?
Will anything become of the Native Dollar?

Perhaps the 2009 ASE with the W mintmark?

They are not to be found?

There was a lot of 5 on eBay a minute ago, and when I clicked to buy them, somebody beat me to it by one second.

It takes time. You have to wake up a few years down the road, in order to know a sure sleeper. Low mintage and aesthetic beauty are hints. Traci

The only big "sleeper" in 09, has got to be me :D
I would say that there are no coins that are hot, that haven't already been picked up or sold out. I wouldn't say there are any sleeper coins, IMO.

Concur. I'm able to get 100's of P rolls, and can't get a D to save my life.

I don't know if they are sleepers but I can't find many 2009 coins of any denomination. Thus, I think that several of these coins will become collector's items. The Lincoln silver dollar and cents are probably going to be worth something someday. Considering all the hype, they certainly aren't sleepers. I agree with Danr on the dimes and nickels. You can't find any of them in circulation and the mint doesn't sell rolls or bags of them.

I was able to get one of the unc Lincoln silver dollars from the mint.
That coin sells on ebay for a lot more than it cost me.
So at the mint's asking price it WAS a sleeper at the time.

Word in the shop is fractional Buffaloes. I won't buy any because the premiums are just plain stupid.
Far as that goes I haven't bought a U.S. Mint product since 2006.

I've noticed that some coins will increase substanitally in the beginning then level off and stay there or even drop dramatically.

    These aren't "sleepers" they're "anomalies"

Lucky You! And I really mean that!

All SAE's are produced at the West Point facility and there are many unscrupulous dealers out there that sell common Bullion SAE's as 200x-W without the W mintmark!

Todate, not one single 2009-W SAE has been produced, Uncirculated or Proof, so whatever you saw was bogus with a capital B and that Rhymes with P and that stands for pool!

As for the 2009 Dimes and Nickels, these will command a premium for a small period of time but I could almost guarantee that the prices will drop over the long run since millions were produced.

Dan, I think the OP was asking about 2009 coins, but tell me about the fractionals. What is the word on these? I am hoping that the 1/4 ounce coin is going to be the real winner of the fractional Buffalo coins, at least I was willing to bet my own money on it last year.

I was talking about 2009 coins as well. Just what I hear and it could be true but it could be false as well.

I will say this much. We tend to buy modern and dump it fast to get started. THEN we really look.

I don't have the cash to play that game.
