I bought this 20 cent piece as a kid and at the time I bought it, I didn't mind what looks like some sort of damage that was repaired on the obverse of the coin. It's hard to tell from the scan, but to the right of the seated liberty there's a bit of a recess in the empty space. Can anyone tell me what they think this might be?

Sorry the scan isn't the best quality.

The coin was probably engraved with initials or a sentiment. Later it was nicely polished off. My guess. Traci

From your photo that does appear to be the situation. Might have been a dent, scratch, etc too that was attempted to be removed by polishing. To bad, nice coin.
