1943 steel cent die clash.. Need honest opinions

Very on the edge about submiting this coin.. I originaly bought it 15+ years ago and it's sat in odd box for years. Major strike through... beautiful coin... but is it too beautiful? ie plated? I don't think it's been plated but figured worth asking opinions... 90% certain I'm sending it for grading/ID come the 1st... Thoughts? added strike though comparison as well lol... Probably the best strike through example i've seen too

I think this falls more into the category of indirect die transfer.
I believe they also call it ghosting, but I prefer the fancy names.

 

Let’s see the third side, the edge. If it’s a reprocessed ‘ 43 the edge will have the same “shine”.

 

edge is relativly dull compared to the rest of the coin... (made me break out the gloves for that pic lol)

 

The Positive: IMO it's a die clash.
The Negative: IMO it's plated.

If I'm correct I don't know what a TPG will call it.

 

Which is why it's sat in the box so long lol

 

It looks like a combination of clash along with ghosting. Interesting.

yeah the die clash itself is a no doubt thing as for reprocessed.. IDK but I think I've leaned that way from the start (being why it has yet to be sent in)

 

It's plated, though. Really looks that way based on these pictures. It's got that chrome bumper look all over it.

after reading that article, I have to agree that PIDT is shown but the die clash is there as well without a doubt.. Look by the C in cent you can see the exact neckline without the fuzzyness/ghostlyness of a PIDT.

 

Fun coin!! Clash is strong and if reprocessed, it didn't seem to diminish the contrast of the clash (by much anyway). Looks too clean not to be reprocessed though, but probably an EDS coin to start with. Worth sending in, IMO, since the contrast is so strong. I really would have expected a wash over the clash edges to make them less distinct.

 

Sending a plated coin in to be graded would not be worth the money spent. It would be 86'ed, in bar terms.

 

if you have extra money send the coin in , if you do not send you are always going to wonder, send in

 

Hopefully the gloves didn’t add scratches.

 

are you sending or putting back in box

 

put a magnet on it and see if it will pick up if it does you either have a war time penny thats been copper plated or you have a true 1943 copper penny that is worth
millions of dollars
