Ok so here we go folks...
Looking for explanation or for someone to offer (pinky to mouth) one billion dollars.

I've not seen this on any coin. I don't think is after market damage. But I could be wrong. Can't find it anywhere else (but then again I may not know where to look)

    And... take it away

Oh and note besides the uhmmm blowout head... uhm... there seems to kinda be a Crack and well the rim seems off center to me as well back is shown for possible reasons you might see that I cannot.

Post-mint damage. Caused by heat, I would imagine. That is the only plausible explanation for that bulging on the head that I can come up with.

But I'm 99% certain it's post-mint damage, odd and interesting though it may be.

As it happens, I just got some of those nifty hyperinflationary 50-billion-dollar notes from Zimbabwe. Got change for Z$50B? :p

Ayuh ok... so what about the Crack and off centered rim?

Yeah... weird how it goes under and lifts up the lettering yet... I thought with something that could cause that much heat damage, it would most certainly damage the opposite side. Yeah? No?

Oh and the crack is more like 2. From the nose down thru the U in trust and from nose to out across.

Also STRANGELY the more I look at the date it's starting to look more like 2000 instead of 2007. Coin is smooth feeling not like it looks I mean you can certainly feel the letters and ridge but it doesn't feel all pitted or sandblasted... if you will.

I don’t see any off-centered rim. Sure, part of the rim is gone but it appears to have been a side effect of whatever caused the damage. (Smushed away?)

As to the bulging/bubbling affecting the obverse but not the reverse, this is a clad coin, with three layers in the “sandwich” (copper-nickel, copper, copper-nickel). So it is not implausible that one of the outer clad layers got affected while the other wasn’t, I suppose.

Here maybe this might give another advantage to look at.

Don’t see any crack. Just lots of micro-pitting. Any linear arrangement that makes that look like a crack is likely coincidental (pareidolia).

Ooh. I like seeing things in things.

For me. The second pic in last set shows the line which I am perceiving to be a Crack. It is fairly visible from the U in trust and down. But again I have no idea how both the bulge and what I perceive to be the crack line... were created.

That happens. Stare at a weird coin like this long enough, and you’re bound to see all kinds of stuff.

It’s certainly unusual looking. But clearly just damaged, unfortunately. What caused the damage is the mystery. Heat is still my best guess, but maybe there are some other scenarios like acid or something. Dunno.

But you can tell it’s damaged just from the roughness of the surfaces. An error coin wouldn’t look like that. It might have irregularities, but there are extremely few scenarios wherein a coin would leave the mint with rough surfaces like that. So it’s obviously PMD of some kind.

Oh and shoot the back shows the rim thickness and thinning as well. Is that possible in a smudging? I would think ( don't laugh at that) that it would only smudge one side based on pressure?

Having had a powerful electrical current go through it is another possible scenario, maybe, but that sorta falls under the same category as heat.

Heat can cause warping when the metal softens up.

Thanks for all the info. If you come up with any ideas on how it got this way let me know. I keep looking at it and seeing the various damaged areas like the we i and etc. I just haven't seen this kind of damage before.

Remember, a coin isn't an error because you can't explain what caused the damage. A coin is an error because of a mistake during the minting process. That means you should be able to explain how a coin like yours left the mint with that appearance. The short answer is...it couldn't.

It looks like heat damage to me, but in the end, it really doesn't matter if it was heat, corrosion, or aliens, it couldn't have left the mint like that.

Oh, I dunno. Aliens could make it a lot more valuable. Depends on the type of radiation, and whether you're talkin' Planet Znutar or just plain old Neptune.
