Hello once again everybody! Here with another noobie question but it’s been difficult finding information for this topic. Is the off center hole considered a true error? Or is it regarded as how most people look at a poor mans double die; Just a regular irregularity? If anyone has any other interesting information on this coin or it’s history please share if inclined to do so
It looks like a brass sort of material in hand. The redness is hard to see in the pictures. Also I picked it up at my local coin shop so I wouldn’t assume it’s fake but you never know!
I would probably consider it similar to a "clipped" planchet. The center hole would be punched out first then the strip advanced than the blank punched out. If the strip doesn't advance properly the hole ends up off-set in the planchet. So a true error, but since most collectors of non-US coins don't get excited over errors probably of minimal value.
Fairly common brass Kwangtung province cash, Y191. Looks harshly cleaned. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces22475.html
