Sheesh, if that's your standard that's gonna be a whale of a type set!!! I'm torn between AU55 & AU58 so I'm going to go with AU56.5
That scratch is minor, but it's there and matters on a coin that grades AU. The piece has great eye appeal and would be a wonderful addition for most type sets.
AU50, the scratch is really thin and only noticeable because it isn't toned with the rest of the patina. Nice coin, I wish you luck with the rest of your type set.
I think it's lovely, and didn't notice that little hairline scratch until it was pointed out (and do not find it objectionable now that I do see it). Looks AU50-ish to me, if not 53. My first initial take was XF45 but I think that's too conservative.
Yes, you can't say it on the PCGS blog, but "True View" pictures of a coin are like the photos of the girls that appeared in my high school year book. In life the girl had acne and scares. After they air brushed the photos, she looked like Miss America.
Eh, I don’t think it’s so egregious as that. After all, PCGS is not digitally altering the photos to make the coin more appealing. Sure, the lighting is just-so, to show the coin in its best light (literally), and I can understand wanting to see additional, more “candid” alternate photos if I’m shopping, but there’s nothing wrong with a glamor shot, IMHO, as long as it reflects reality under at least certain (ideal) circumstances.
I agree with the previous posters, technically it‘s an XF45, but PCGS may have called it AU53. It shouldn’t go higher and is nowhere near AU58, although it‘s a beauty. I like the coin at AU50 and believe it‘s an O-106.
