I have begun a set of silver coins from the countries that used to make up the Soviet Union. A natural sub-set includes the "stan" countries. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were easy enough but this is the first of the more challenging coins. It is a 5 Somoni from Tajikistan. The mintage is 2,000 and it was made by the Kazakhstan Mint. It commemorates the 10th Anniversary of EurAsEC (an organization of several former Soviet nations for economic purposes; it ended in 2014 but there is a successor). One side features a monument of Ismail Samani in Dushanbe along with the colorful logo of EurAsEC while the other has the coat of arms of Tajikistan. Samani was a strong ruler (late 9th through early 10th century) and the Tajik currency (Somoni) is named after him.
I usually don't care for colorized coins but when kept to a small amount of coloring like this coin, it looks really nice.
