9mm 4.0 gm This coin is not AR that I can tell, it is AE. Been asking for a few years; It seems to me that on the back is written: "Mother of God, help John" ( ) That was assistance a few years back. Any ideas?
Assuming "9mm" is a typo, I suspect it may be a seal rather a coin. https://www.doaks.org/resources/seals [edited]
Closest i have seen , nice job. Not lead though, that would be unusual for a seal. However tbe inscription fits, the mark above the virgin i thought was a test mark. I have limited knowledge on seals. Would a AE seal be u usual @dltsrq
I'm not an expert on seals, though I find them interesting. My guess is that it's a lead alloy. You may be able to find an exact match at DO with a careful search.
This document brought me up to speed on seals, a bunch of I did not know that. Thought I would share. Thanks again @dltsrq for your input and probable correct answer. (2) (PDF) Byzantine seals introduction | beatrice caseau - Academia.edu
