AU55??? Really? Definitely cracking this open and sending to PCGS!

I don't know about that. Look at the strong breast feathers, which is typically the weak area for that Mint. Hard to find circulation wear elsewhere on these when those breast feathers come on that strong.

I will trust your judgement and years of experience , I had it at AU-55 actually with what i thought was signs of wear above the ear , top of hair , cheek . Also has cabinet rub on the cheek it looks like . Breast , wing tips , luster rub near the top of the right wing tip and neck on the obverse.

 

I am seeing what I think is alot going on , many areas of luster rub at least.

 

Just the strength of the breast feathers suggests this is high AU, even MS, the idea being, if there's wear, that's the first place it's going to show it up. That's suggestive the less-distinct areas elsewhere aren't due to wear but to a weak strike. That's not easy to nail down in these pictures, as they're a little fuzzy for that.

 

yes I know it has a Pretty nice strike , I have it at AU-55

 

I think you may be misunderstanding me. I'm simply saying what you're seeing as AU55 wear may rather be due to a weak strike given how strong that breast still is.

This is my opinion as well of the coins posted in this thread. The OP Morgan is heavily dipped, but market acceptability is a matter of opinion. All of the TPG’s “market grade” and that looks like what they did here. The coin doesn’t appear to be heavily marked which may have tipped it to the straight graded side. The MS63 Morgan posted later has a lot of marks, but the cartwheel luster draws attention from the other imperfections. Most of us would pay more for it than for the dip monster, so the grading of both make sense. Not sure that any of the 3 grading services would have handled the 2 coins much differently. Besides, PCGS MS details and ANACS AU55 maybe would go for the same money.
