Anyone want to take a stab at the grade on this coin? I have another 11-D graded by PCGS as 64 BN. The 64 has a bit more luster than this one, but also a couple small spots. This one does have a bit better strike.

BTW, the scratch through his head is on the slab, not the coin.

it is not my series, but I will play, I will say ms-63 bn, I think that what I see on the forehead would keep it from going higher.

    Obverse 65 BN, Reverse 63

Pleasant tone, good strike, clear fields on the obverse.

The reverse appears it hold it back a bit. What is the deal with the rim?

Overall, a very nice coin, thanks for sharing.

My guess is that NGC graded it MS-66 BN. I wouldn't agree, I think it's a 65 at best and probably graded accurately at MS-64.

... but I don't know the strike characteristics of and 11-D, so I can't say for sure.

No one got it. That doesn't surprise me. The only logic I can see is that they took that much off for the planchet flaw (or at least that is my best guess) on the right reverse. From what I can make out of it, that coin is a solid 64 and probably a 65 without that mark. Do I agree with their grading? - Not really. I might be able to understand a 63, but a 62!!!! It took me a while to even find it being that close to the edge. It is not even near a focal point.

    I still say 64/63, I agree 62 is low.

That coin was slabbed a few years ago when the TPG's were fairly accurate. Yeah, I know, everybody tells me I'm nuts and they haven't changed recently. But that slab was first used in 2001 and not before.

Wanna prove my point for me - crack it and re-submit. Betcha ya get a higher grade.

Oh - and what about the strikethrough error under the chin ?

I agree with GD, the overinflated grading system doesn't tickle me at all. But that is a very nice, seemingly accurately graded coin.

I would either get a higher grade or it would come back in a bag.

Anyway, where is this strikethrough you are talking about? The only thing I can see is dust on the slab for the picture but nothing on the coin.

That is the only thing I could see that you were talking about. I finally got the slab twisted right. It is a scratch on the slab. There is nothing on the coin.

What is that on the reverse going from the "E" in "cent" to the bottom of the right wheat stalk? A strike through? A die crack?

I wondered if anyone would see that . It is nothing but a hair.

I think it looks like a very slight rub on the cheek and maybe that's why they downgraded or perhaps the lamination error. I think it would upgrade and would not bag if resubmitted. Very nice coin
