Wow, I have never seen a nickel toned like that. My first thought was AT...but I'm not a toning expert. PCGS slabbed it so they must have at least thought it was market acceptable...but I wouldn't buy it.
a lot of nickels from early proof sets ('57 to '64) toned. Usually gold, in my experience, although I do have a few that are violet - and I have seen a few that are blue. I would suspect that this one is just in a later state of toning. Although I've never seen one that blue.
The best opinion you will probably ever get is from the people who put it in the slab. They know as much or more than anyone here and they had it in hand. Not that I am accusing anyone, but pictures lie or, maybe better, hide the truth.
Kind of. That's not completely true. If they have an inkling that it might be AT but the colors and patterns are considered "market acceptable" they will slab it.
I have several nice bluish toned Jeffersons Proofs that are blue or Icey Blue in color. None of mine are anything close to this color blue.I find alot of early 60's Jefferson turned a blue / violet shades.Nice nickel and a nice price too.
What Camaro said... Look hard enough, there are some AT coins that are in PCGS and NGC slabs, you can't escape it... But the thing is, a lot of the coins, you couldn't even tell the difference.
How many would you like ? I've got a box full of them and will send you some for free. And yes, they are 100% NT.
I have a couple that have that shade of blue on them, but not uniformly all over the coin. That is amazing. Makes me want to get one, for no other reason than to just look at. Beautiful color.
I'd buy one from you at book value for the grade of the coin. I think you just significantly devalued his listing though!
The ones I have look like those you'll see - HERE - Those on that web site came from me out of the same box.
I always wondered if the mint package caused that look. You can also find them black, called a Black Beauty.
