How does one dispose of acetone? You certainly don't dump it into the sewer system...

Just leave it in a bowl outside, it will evaporate.

Since the vapor is very flammable let it evaporate outside away from igniting sources such as gas stove / water heaters, etc. Jim

Give it to someone who can use it to remove fingernail polish. Fingernail polish remover is usually just acetone.

Since we are on a coin forum, I am assuming that the is talking about a small amount of acetone. Its nail polish remover, not Sulfuric Acid.

Why dispose of it? It has functionality in the hobby. Just use it.

Open the container. It will disappear on its own.

I wonder what the municipalities really do with all of the contaminants turned in by concerned citizens. I suppose it doesn't matter because we have been lectured the atmosphere is going down the tubes. @ 0% carbon footprint creation in the USA, the effects will be negligible in the overall scheme of things. Not many realize our (world) inability to control climate change. Mother Nature will have her way no matter what we do.

I agree 100%, but i also think our actions, as humans, may have some effect on her wrath. Mother nature didn't invent modern acid rain, we did! Awesome humans!

Here's a good trick . Put it in kitty litter and throw it in the trash . People do it with paint if you want to be quick about it instead of letting it dry .;)

On the contrary, Mother Nature collects air pollutants and has for billions of years which when added to heavy H2O in the atmosphere falls as acid rain. Mother Nature produces contaminants every day just as we do.

What is the evaporation rate of acetone? Quick answer: Varies by surface area and ambient temperature variation.

Right she invented ANCIENT acid rain.

I just dump mine on the concrete driveway, evaporates very rapidly, and sometimes for fun I ignite it

No, you definitely don't want to pour it down any drains as it will dissolve some drain lines. And then you've really got problems, expensive ones !

It's what I always did, simplest and easiest solution. And harmless as well.

But, if that doesn't appeal to you, most paint stores are set up to accept a wide variety of used, and or unused solvents like acetone. Simply take to them in a sealed container and they'll dispose of it - usually free of charge.

Of course she does, been doing so for billions of years, and she's was still chugging, on her own. Modern humans came along, and destroyed her in 200 years. Surely, anyone can see that.
