If you have an unlimited budget and / or have coins that you've had assessed by professionals (or you can tell) that are great - and your goal is resale (now or in the future) go with PCGS. If you have foreign coins / medals then go with NGC. If you have variations and or are shopping price ANACS is great on varieties. ICG is the one I've used (I just started sending my own coins in last year, now I've sent in my third batch) they have a discount for Cointalk members ($10 a coin), they guarantee their work, they are, in my experience, very honest about grades - I haven't found any "overgrading" which would have been nice, and the service is really easy to use. As a collector, I acknowledge I may eventually reslab some of my ICG (and ANACS purchases) with PCGS, but I'm not worried about resale, I just want them for me, so ICG is a valuable resource.

I think PCGS are crooks personally, so yes. I would go with ANACS. I recently sent in a set of 40% JFK Halves 1965-1969. They were SEALED in a plastic, hard, collectible case and been in closet for 30 years. I personally cracked them out because the 1967 was a DDO. This coin would be TOP POP. they graded all MS grades EXCEPT that coin. (Of course) Details, Cleaned grade. If it has been cleaned, then THEY cleaned it. What a sham! I will never use them again.

 

Buyers prefer PCGS. They have established a reputation over the years that places them at the top of the peristalsis. However my more recent experiences with them have been poor. I feel like they are trying to hire graders off the street and training them. Customer Service is almost nonexistent. Very iffy. They seem to have truly lowered the bar on their standards. We have made a decision to stop using them even though our customers prefer the PCGS holder. I know that’s harsh, but it is the reality of their present situation. Hope they wake up!

WOW, those grades are harsh!!!! The MS62's look like 64, and the 64s look gem or premium gem from the photos.

 

It was hard to swallow. They were all from a super nice set.

 

Unless they are silver, it might be cheaper to just look at examples of different grades as the cost of the grading most likely won't be recouped when you go to sell them. Non-silver are mostly worth not much more than face value. I graded some DCAM silver dimes last summer on one of their specials that i have had forever that are not worth much more at this time than the cost to grade them. Waiting for silver to get over $40/oz, which is a crap shoot as to when...

 

It's just overwhelmed. They get a billion calls a day from things being slow, but they're at the mercy of Cali and increased submissions

Yes, many buyers prefer PCGS, not me. I use ANACS to grade my stuff and I hardly ever get my coins, tokens or medals graded. No need, unless you have a coin that is known to be highly counterfeited. I would grade to sell, no other reason!

You are def correct. Im actually ok with tight grading standards..., I can appreciate them as long as they go across the board. Too shady for me.

There's a sucker born every minute. P.T. Barnum What I really like about ICG and ANACS slabs, is you are much more likely to get a deal, because the PCGS / NGC snobs ignore the coins and focus on the slabs. Works for me

That said, I'm no dummy, if and when I want to sell anything good, I'm going to probably put it in a PCGS slab to maximize the price. Gimmie that snob moola!
