Alan Berman has a website, and wrote the book on Papal coinage. He's a great guy, fun to talk to as well.

Then there were the papal states which went out of existence in 1870. There were a few patterns and medals issued by Popes Leo XIII, Pius X, and Benedict XV, but they are very rare. Later medals for these popes have been privately issued.

I recall having a running joke with John about my not being able to tell which side was up on so many of them (a common problem with medieval coins) but later coins of the Popes include some really beautiful designs.
