Hi all. Be gentle lol. I’m assuming that this coin is just wear and tear. I found some coins I have had a while. Forgot I had them.
Welcome to CoinTalk!… If you don’t already have one, get a Yeoman Red Book. It will help you learn how to grade your coins. Just don’t take the values seriously, as soon as it’s printed the values listed are out of date. But it is chock full of accurate information, otherwise. Your Franklin Half has moderate to heavy wear, if I had to place a ballpark grade I would say vf20. Lots of flattened hair on the obverse and no detail left on the Liberty Bell on the reverse. Stick with us and we will help you learn...jmho...Spark

On the JFK I could be incorrect, but “ In Trust” I notice it’s going downward. But hey I’m far from a pro.
Common date well circulated coins. Welcome here, but understand that everybody posts coins they think have value, and they are mostly pocket change. The 1881s Morgan Dollar is an extremely common date, and has been used and abused.
An interesting story about the Franklin half is the tiny little eagle on it. The mint act of 1792 stated that half dollars had to display an eagle on the reverse. The coin designer really wanted the liberty bell, since it went well with Franklin, (both being Philadelphia landmarks). So they also put a tiny eagle on the reverse to comply with the law.
To be honest, I have just started going through my coins I have had for years. I bought a couple of books, so I’m blind to many things but as I learn, I see the interesting characteristics.
@PamR ...when you feel up to it, you could go to VAM World and try your hand at finding the die pair/assigned VAM for your ‘81-S Morgan. Just take your time and don’t be overwhelmed. It can become addictive but it’s really fun. ...jmho...Spark
Welcome! I'm a total newb too, but you've found the right place. You're going to get honest, frank answers. Don't be offended, no one is trying to intentionally offend anyone, except maybe @SensibleSal66 (just kidding! Lol). My coins have no value either, other than melt, or what someone might find interesting, but i try to post something everyday. Keep coming back. Lots to learn here.
