Your 1922- could be worth several hundred (Yes, it that condition) if it is real. I cannot tell anything for sure without seeing the reverse, but from the looks of the date, someone has messed with this coin.
Yes I see what you see now on the coin with my loop.. It Looks a bit like the pitting and wear.. It may be a D but it looks low to me.. Dang! Oh well .. It is in rough shape anyway... Goes in my filler set I guess... "God We Thu" ... LOL.. I found these nice Toned ones also.. wish I could get a better picture with the Scanner..
Some of the Die Pairs for the 22 D's are known to have very low D's... might be what we have here. sometimes when coins get that crusty and beat up stepping back a little will make it more clear... using a loop you might not see anything... at least that is my experience.
When I look at the "D" in the largest blowup, it looks circular, with a lot of rather deep lines through that area. Looks like someone tried to machine the "D" off. Jim
Congrats Congrats on all the neat finds. I just looked through 300 Lincolns and pulled a half dozen for my Dansco book and I think I found a couple good errors in the mix. I will photograph them now.
Oh well.. It was beat anyhow.. I need to find one in EF or better... I will be looking a LONG time...
If you are serious, look at heritage; http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1132&Lot_No=139 or if you want a real nice one http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1132&Lot_No=141
22-'s are not cheap. You said EF or better and my guess is that you will not find them too much cheaper than Heritage. You might be able to get a VG for $800ish; http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=29113&Lot_No=24370
It's a D that was tampered with and removed a long time ago to make the coin appear as a No D coin. Thanks, Bill
