    Hi all,
I am new, yes. It all started dealing with Mr. Fred Weinberg on another coin. Then I remembered while working at the bank years ago, I would swap out coins now and then. This one I swapped out because that’s the year I graduated. Well decided to look at it. Look at it and see what you all think please. I have so many other coins even from 1800s. The coin I showed to Mr. Weinberg was an Ellis Island 2017 coin. But he says tampered with. I can post that later. Looks pretty darn good for tampering.
    Thank you.

That Cent is plated. Altered after it left the US Mint.
Not a Mint Error of any kind.

If that's what Fred told you then it's definitely not a Mint Error.

It has been in my safe since 1990s. Do you think it was before?

Oh I know. I trusted Mr. Weinberg. U.S. Mint connected me with him. The penny he stated he did not deal with die errors etc.

    What was in your safe?
Before what?.. That Cent is not an error of any kind.
That's all there is to say about it.

You must of misunderstood him. Of course he deals with Die Errors. He is a well known mint error expert in all types of errors.

Yes the cent in the safe for 30 plus years. But enough said. It looks brand new. I will just sell to the person that wants it. Worth more than a penny to them. Thank you.

It's plated and worth only 1 Cent.
That would be dishonest to try to pass it off as an error. It's a novelty item plated by someone after it left the US Mint. Do you understand?

    @PamR
Ok.. You said he does not deal with Die Errors.
There is a difference. He stated in that letter that he does not deal with Die Varieties.

Errors and Varieties are two different issues.
But he definitely deals with errors.

I posted the email from mr Weinberg. The man offered me when I went into a coin dealer. I did not pitch anything. This is my second coin to even speak to someone about. Mr. Weinberg stated this site was a good one. But never thought I would be accused of false statements. I was not selling it. Just showed the man at the shop and he offered. I did not sell or offer it to him.

If that coin has been in your safe all these years itcwas tampered with before you put it in the safe.

    Welcome to CT.

I had sent this to Mr. Weinberg. I knew in my gut it was probably tampered with but always good to ask.

I never accused you of anything. I'm just trying to guide you in the right path. The correct course of action. Whoever offered to buy it obviously knows nothing about true mint errors. FYI.. Not all coinshop owners know about errors and varieties. Many do but not all.

And that quarter was definitely altered after it left the Mint.

    Peace.

Nothing personal, but that's ignorant, it's a plated cent.
