This is a 1795 Genevan 6 florin in an ANACS EF45 holder. I was thinking about crossing at PCGS but am worried they'd ding it down to a VF/XF Details grade due to what looks like rim damage from jewelry. However, the coins I've seen as "mount removed" usually have damage in the same area on both sides of the coin, but this does not – see dent at 6 on the obv and 2 on the reverse (coin orientation). Any ideas on what this damage could be and whether a PCGS details grade is more valuable than an ANACS numeric one? Thanks!
Hard to tell with those pics. One might argue that the denticles were smashed/squeezed rather than soldered. Either way, I suspect it would earn a details grade in either NGC or PCGS. If it were me, I would keep it in the 'straight' ANACS holder.
It's hard to tell inside the holder. It could just be from the minting process. I've seen worse-looking rims get straight graded.
WHY? You indicate that there are certain marks that "MIGHT" force it to a lesser grade. Are you willing to take a chance? Is it worth the chance? Not trying to indicate anything but it appears you are looking for a crossover to increase the value? I have seen many crossovers fail and when the submitter receives them back they are upset. JMO Stay safe.
