    See my original post for a mention of Cicero's skepticism regarding the story. We shouldn't assume that educated Romans of that time were particularly credulous about such supernatural explanations of historical events.

    Hey Donna do you happen to know what the oldest known coin that definitively came from Rome is?

    I read that they used bronze ingots and bronze asses and such but I wouldn’t exactly classify that are coinage.

    I'm guessing they used Greek coinage prior to making their own coinage but I'm curious what the first coin minted in Rome is.
