When the OP says "missed the doubling", I doubt he knew he had to request it and pay the extra for attribution, and if he has done that for the second submission. If not this is going to be a costly slabbing experience in total, even with a *

You will not see the patch of HLNS (usually on the cheek) unless the coin is held just so in the light.

There are a lot of hits on that coin. I'll bet it got a grade bump for the color. As the young ex-dealer finalizer's like to tell us old-time collectors: "There is a lot of "room" between MS-64 and MS-70 so use it!

And you or anyone else will not w/o a highly magnified image of that coin rotated and tipped in one, exact position to the light.

Just stating an (non) observation. It is not apparent in any images posted....;)

Why would a TPG be using a highly magnified camera or microscope to examine a common date Roosevelt Dime?

  8. fyi ... Here's one instance of the doubling and I've already been offered $500 for the coin! You guys are too much! ...lol...

I was on your side until you divulged that someone offered you $500 for an MS65* 1964-D Rosie, and apparently, you are holding out for more.

You've been offered $500 for it huh? You said it's on its way back to NGC for an attribution on the die deterioration doubling you found on the reverse. And I seriously doubt someone offered $500 for this. I wouldn't pay more than $8 raw.

I am thinking you made it up just to prove us wrong and say we really don't know what we are talking about. But who knows? I'm sure there's plenty of people who have bought damaged coins on etsy for thousands.

When it returns from NGC you can submit it to PCGS for crossover

If you don’t take the $500 offer you are not very smart.

I think he should crack it out and re submit it to pcgs next to see what their opinion is! Why not have a hundred dollars into this dime? In a thousand years think about what this dime will be worth? What's another 20 or 30 or...

You're off your nut if you think anybody in their right mind is going to pay you extra for any "doubling" you're photographing here. Your MS65* FT is your grade on this coin for the NGC market, as they, in their infinite wisdom, assess that market. Market it for all you can get for it, that's the game. Submit it to the CAC if you haven't paid enough to help you market it for all you can get for it.

AFAIK there is only one :wacky::confused: fool who ever worked at any TPGS (past or present)who ever used high magnification to HELP grade 97+ percent of coins they examined. So to answer your question, THEY DON'T.

I've seen 5X to 10X used in a grading room with a scope used on limited occasions for authentication only. The vast majority of "wipes" (a term used by some folks to describe a patch of hairlines) can be seen without magnification by anyone who knows how to look for them. If you get the chance to examine a mark-free dime straight graded MS-64 that you think is an under-graded MS-67 or MS-68, the coin has a "wipe." ;)

In my experience (I don't think there are any changes) the two major TPGS don't bother to recognize any of the "fly-speck" doubled die coins. So, the chance of one of their graders catching a 1972 DDO#10 is slim and if you ID it for them they probably will not slab it as such. I was told the reason minor doubled die varieties are not labeled as such was because it would make them seem to be worth close to the price of the major variety to uneducated folks.

IMO, if you claim to be #1 or #2, you better do as much as #3 and #4 who do ID all the varieties.

PS Hopefully, the top two have been forced to continue to add more varieties collectors want.

"Collectors?" Ever seen some of these "varieties?" Never forget, @Insider, all you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people...
