I recently acquired this beautiful key date (422k mintage) Canadian 10 cent slabbed at MS65. I’m curious as to where folks familiar with the series would place the value. There don’t seem to be adequate comps in the eBay sold files. Thanks!
I would think around $120 NGC has it at 63 for $80 and thats basically it for MS so its just a guess.
The above was taken from this site:https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...enomination=3&date=1948&details=0&Send=Search The sold prices are in Canadian dollars.
I plan to list it to eBay this upcoming week so I’ll update this thread with the sale price. Thanks for the input thus far!
I can't remember seeing a lot of 1948 10 cent coins in MS-65 condition selling on e-bay or auction houses. I'm sure there has been some in the past the 10 cent Canadian series are not collected by many collectors and not really in big demand. I had them all in MS-65 from 37 - date never really got what I thought they would bring just not enough people collecting them at the time I guess. 10 cent Canadian are not big attracters to many and yes I agree a very nice coin
The NGC/Krause World Coin Price Guide has it at $80 in 63...no other/higher listed. That said, holder is scratched but think coin may be also...to some extent. Did you see/have it before grading...? A 65 might be a liberal grade for this, though indeed a nice-looking coin.
That's good...didn't make sense but hard to differentiate on holder-to-coin via just a 2D photo...looked like scratches on both. Thx.
I have several 10 cent Canadian coins, the oldest is 1968. My dad travelled during WW II and most of my coins are in Australia and New Zealand and others in that area. Somehow, he had coins in Great Britain during that time as well. My brother and I split all the coins as per his will. Most of them are in great shape. Any idea of a cheap good book that has info on foreign coins? By the way, great coin.
I am a collector of Canadian and Irish coins. I did some research of the various auction sites I follow, mostly Canadian. In April 2020 a PCGS 66 Superb White sold for C$1190 incl. the 18% buyer's prem. An ICCS (Canadian grading and probably stricter than American graders) MS 64 sold for C$166 with Buyer's premium. There is an obvious scarcity value to this coin. My thought is that you place your marker between C$800 - 900 (USD 640 to USD 720). The figure includes also the Buyer's premium. I am using C$1.25 = USD1 Good luck. Bonne Chance. (we are bilingual up here.
Thanks for all the additional input. I’ll post some better photos tomorrow as I get it reshot for listing.
Enter the cert at PCGS https://www.pcgs.com/cert/38640441 And click "Value Information" https://www.pcgs.com/valueview/george-vi-1937-1952/1948-10c/4343?sn=31501&g=65&h= The only MS 65 that sold (which PCGS has a record of-they do miss some auctions and don't include all venues) was for $270 at Heritage in November 2020. That one appears to look nicer than this example. https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor...-63307.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
Condition rarities are tough to gauge. J&M lists the 1948 in MS65 at $518, but the 1938 at $598 even though the mintage was over 4 million. I suspect that like the 1948 $1, people saved them straight from the bank and so there's a higher % of MS coins than normal. Your customer base would include people like me who would be happy with an MS63 at $50-70 instead of paying 10x more. How much did you pay? In this case unfortunately it seems like that would tell you how much someone else would pay.
This era was the beginning of mirrored finished . It is actually about the start of the PL PF and SP finishes on Canadian coinage. Take a closer look at the abrasion lines, yet reflective fields.
It’s tough to say how much I paid for the coin as it was part of a large wholesale mixed lot of world and US coins.
PCGS has TrueView of it, if you want another photo perspective. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/38640441 Heritage has three more MS65 from 11 years ago - $230 PCGS, $199 PCGS and $805 ICCS.
