I like the proof and mint sets as well...my father left me 5 or 6 sets and I have been buying the proof sets every year from the mint since 99..tried to do the silver eagle uncs every year as well, but have missed a few and need to work backwards to get them all

I collect whatever catches my eye & what I can afford depending on how bad I really want it. Most of my collection is U.S. & South American coins.

I'm collecting everything except 2009 nickels, dimes, and quarters. I'm sold of the idea that they're closing the Philadelphia & Denver mints and outsourcing their operations to China to save money, which explains the absence of these coins in circulation. What else explains our president's trip to China this week? He's inspecting the money!

I've got all of the silver proof statehood quarters and am working on a set of proof ASEs. Have fun!

I mostly collect ancients, particularly Imperial and provincial Roman coins, but I'll pick up other things if they happen to strike my fancy, even if they're modern.

I started collecting Morgans a while back... circulated initially to get a feel for and try to learn as much as I could about them. Slowly I began selling the circulated coins for higher grades. It's been a progression since then and now I am trying to build a MS65 grade or higher collection (non key-dates of course, I'm not a millionaire lol)

what I actually bought this last weekend

I could tell you that I collect error coins & type coins, V-nickels, and high grade coins of the world. However, I think that would be a little misleading. Let me tell you what I actually bought this last weekend:

I bought 30 or so AU58 to MS65 cents dated between 1919 & 1949. I sorted through 300 high grade cents with my microscope & paid for those that I wanted to keep. The cost was about $20 and included several hours of labor. In the mix I believe I found a 1936 DDO and upgraded a half dozen pieces in my Dansco Lincoln book.

I bought two VG Columbian Leprosy Colony 50 Centavo coins. One has a star and one has no star on the reverse. I will be posting this here to discover what the difference might be.

I bought an MS60 $2.50 Indian because it was lustrous & had nice color. Believe me, I had no previous intention to buy a $2.50 Indian until I saw it in the dealer’s case.

I bought an 1853 ½ Centavo from Chile. This was in a bargain box for about $10. It is one of the old Chile coins with the loan star on the obverse and says Medio Centavo. The grade is EF.
