Saw a coin for sale in their slab, did some searching and found this link: http://www.swcgs.com/ASA_v_ANA.html Where they a legit group or similiar to the self slabbers? PG
They are the originator of the slab. ANACS used their slab when they started slabbing coins. However, most every coin I have seen in their slab of late has been overgraded. They are not a "self slabbing" company, just that they overgrade.
Yes it is real! Mr. Alan Hager of Accugrade is the ONE invented of slabbing coin and also professional experts grading of coin & cards. Slabbing coin start in 1984 follow by PCGS 1986 then NGC in 1987. The Lawsuit is real. In year 2000 I met mr. Alan Hager in Baltimore, Maryland, March. He personally graded my coins in Baltimore Coin Show. Here's one of the slab that he graded in youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9MMcHnmqFU http://www.pennyondime.com
They are the reason that all of the other scam artist TPG's exist. People saw ACG getting away with gross over-grading for years. They figured, hey, if he can get away with it so can we. And they did. Never buy a coin in an ACG slab unless you are very good at grading and authenticating yourself. May as well just burn your money as buy coins slabbed by them - it'll save ya time.
I figured it wouldn't be all bad to buy an ACG since it would give you a better chance of getting an authentic coin. Also figure you could just spot them a couple grades. Did they ever grade more than +2? PG
Don't count on that either, they have slabbed their share of fakes as well. As I said, never buy a coin in an ACG slab unless - 1 - you are very good at grading yourself 2 - you have to ablilty to recognize all forms of problem coins 3 - you can authenticate the coin just by looking at it in a slab Now, I only know of a handful of people who can do all those things. So what does that tell you that you should do when you see a coin in an ACG slab ?
There are some interesting names in that link. Lots of good people got stuck in that mess. It was a crazy time in coin history. There was one thing really cool. Many varieties were put in those slabs but not shown on the label and many folks did not even take the time to look at the coin because of the holder it was in.
GD....you forgot one.... If you can buy the coin for below melt....I guess at that point you need to refer to GD's rule number 3. Fortunately, not many people are faking IKEs these days. Just bought 4 silver IKEs in Accugrade slabs for below melt. Going to be cracking them out, here in a few minutes unless someone can give me a reason why they are worth more in these slabs.
Not sure,,I clicked on the link above.. then looked at coins for sale.. Morgans and clicked on a couple from the site and it sent me to a closed (removed) auction.. I will try to go back to see....It was odd
Like our very own Peter T Davis.. : ) GO get em Peter. I know 8 of the defendants. LOL. I must travel in bad company...
Found it.. Coins for Sale.. then Dollars.. Then Inventory.. Then on the coins and Boom.. Closed Auction??.http://www.swcgs.com/Coins_For_Sale/Silver_Dollars_For_Sale.html
I once saw a slabbed coin. It was a Franklin Half Dollar graded MS63 3/4 Full Bell Lines. It may have been an MS63 but I was laughing so hard that I couldn't see through my tears. 3/4 Full Bell Lines? I call this reaching. OH. It was an ACG slab. At the risk of being sued (by ACG) I'd really follow the comments left by GDJMSP.
