ah, okay, thanks. I thought the "cheerios" just was a term, kind of like "bugs bunny franklins". I did not know (or even bother to actually check) that they were actually put in cherrio boxes.

Raider has it right, it was the Sac pattern dollar. They were in Cheerios boxes in 2000. They had intended to give out normal Sac Dollars but they actually got a hold of dollar's with pattern reverses. They are very sought after today.

Here is an example of one that sold for $4312.50 last July.

I am more confused now than ever at exactly what the OP is looking for... but here's my take on what he originally asked.

What one coin do I want to own more than any coin on the planet? 1964-D Peace Dollar

Fair warning - any more of the senseless bickering and I start handing out infractions - to all of you who are doing it.

    Now that's a rare coin (physics-fan's 1806 half dollar)!

Lots of respect for this to the point post. Reading forums about people arguing in cyberspace shortens one's life.

I'll nominate another 1964 coin set (which some numismatists think may have actually been made in Denver, at the same time--in the absence of facts, we coin hounds are happy to supply endless speculation): the 1964 SMS coin sets, and specifically the fabulously rare 1964 SMS Kennedy half dollar! Anybody got one?

I don't really collect real expensive coins. I'm not sure if I got any over $500 but the 1928 Peace Dollar in XF40 comes close with the 1877 penny at G4 next.

Some world pattern coins have mintages less than 20, but unfortunately they are only plastic Cheerios so I won't be buying them. This thread has taught me a lot. Anyone with coins in their collection with a value lower than $500 collects worthless hunks of plastics. That's why I always come back to this place. I learn new ways that both myself and my collection can be belittled. Bravo, CT! Maybe if you get a few more elitists, you can finally catch up with CU.

By the way, notice I didn't use anyone's name or reference another post in an argumentative manner? That's because I don't care what these elitists think of my collection. I'm happy with what I own, and I'll continue collecting what I like and not what some person on the internet who thinks his britches are made of gold wants me to collect. All those who posted your rare coins that are worth less than $500, just remember that your collection is more interesting and historically valuable than that of those who like to undermine it.

Ok, I'm biting BigH. You write your comments after mine where I mention that I don't really have any coins worth serious value. It is true that this website includes collectors who have different levels of experience, collect different coins, and have different amounts of funds available to collect. I rarely notice a snobbish behaviour from the richer collectors or the wiser collectors. Almost always, they share their knowledge as well as share pics of their latest prize. I appreciate your right to express your opinion on this site, but I find it totally different than my experience here.

I'm not saying you're all like that, but there are lot here that are. RickieB has a nice budget and a nice collection, but he NEVER undermines anyone. It's not wrong to have a big budget, but it is wrong to look down on those that don't. As a matter of fact, it's not even always those that have a big budget that look down on others. Sometimes it's just people with average budgets that like to undermine others for whatever reason. If all the members were RickieBs, there would be no problem.

I went back and looked at the whole thread, and there was only one poster who set the $500 dollar limit, and referred to coins under that limit as "cheerios", and to that posters credit that comparison was removed. The rest of the posts were simply arguing that coins under $500 dollars can be rare, and just because a coin is worth over $500 doesn't make it rare. So the majority of posters were arguing exactly what you're saying.

So is it really fair to criticize all of CoinTalk?

This guy isn't the only one. I just think there are a lot of rude people here, you don't think that. I agree it is unfair to criticize the entire forum for the actions of maybe 20% of the people on it, though. I shouldn't have generalized, but my point still stands about rude people being fairly plentiful here.

P.S., anyone want to take a poll on when this thread gets locked? 2 PM today is my guess.

It just simply puts me in awe that some can get so far away from the original point of the thread, and sadly, they drag the rest along with it... By the way, that cheerio box reference actually wasn't an insult for any of you who know, cheerios did do a special Illini420 told me about where they had a presidential dollar put in each cheerio box and those numbers were very slightly minted and those i see go for less than $500. http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.html
