Why are slabs so large compared to the coins that they contain? And why don't they offer different color combos to maximize the eye appeal of different types of coins? Inquiring minds want to know...lol. Until there are more options, I just won't buy one.

First, it depends on the coin, imo, the slab isn't large compared to a dollar coin (Trade, Peace ect). So the smaller coins are put in the same size slabs, just to keep the slabs the same size. Imo it would be much more annoying to have 10 different slab sizes for every coin size. As for the color/design of the slab, NGC has used different labels for certain coins, I believe the latest one was the Lincoln comm label. PCGS (I believe) also put the state flags on the label for the state quarters (though I'm not sure if it cost extra).

I don't think that I'm ever goin' to end up with a slab. I'm just into 'moderns' right now in the nice mint capsules and rectangular multi-coin preservers. Thanks everyone for your input! Let's have fun first and foremost.

PS- I jus' love proof coins! They are made for us collectors.
