I could use some direction on this. I am sure that it is NICAEA, Bithynia. It has N I K A I E spaced between what looks like 3 standards. Most of the rest I can't make out. Perhaps if I was more familiar with this pattern I might not have as much trouble. I posted the pictures upright and sideways. Any help is appreciated.
You are correct - the coin is from Nicaea. Same reverse type - https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=7116897 Same reverse was used, from what I can find, by Gordian, Diadumenian, Severus Alexander, Herennia Etruscilla. If you can read the obverse legends at least partially, you will get a clear match.
Yes, I see that also. And the letters below the standards seem to make sense. Thanks again for your help.
I have to say: I'm really impressed by our Ancient members' knowledge. I've not seen our 'professors' stumped once. Truly noteworthy!!
Yes, I/We are very fortunate. I have been working ancients for about 2 years. I knew nothing. I only work with uncleaned. I have learned a bunch from the 'professors'.
I hadn't had a real interest in Ancients until joining CT. I enjoy seeing the conservations, the investigations, and the narratives most of the 'professors' provide. I would say that my curiosity has been broadened by the members and the nurturing that they provide the new enthusiasts is appreciated. It seems that when the time is right for me, I'll have a number of folks to count on for guidance.
I absolutely second Gordian as I’m certain I can see gamma and delta. this type seems to be a lot more common for Sev Alex, so not bad
